Racial Equity and Social Justice through Education Fund

About

An education that teaches students to understand their prejudices, be truly respectful of their peers, to empathize with those around them, and to stand up for the most vulnerable among us is the only way to build a stronger, more equitable, more inclusive and more humane society in the long run. These organizations support teachers in that effort through offering curricular resources, practical knowledge, professional development, and a strong community of like-minded professionals.

Southern Poverty Law Center, Inc.

One of the 3 major prongs of the SPLC's strategy to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity is through Teaching Tolerance: "We’re dedicated to reducing prejudice, improving intergroup relations and supporting equitable school experiences for our nation's children. Our Teaching Tolerance project combats prejudice among our nation’s youth while promoting equality, inclusiveness and equitable learning environments in the classroom. We produce an array of anti-bias resources that we distribute, free of charge, to educators across the country – award-winning classroom documentaries, lesson plans and curricula, Teaching Tolerance magazine, and more."

Rethinking Schools Limited

They are pushing the school to be more equitable for all..."it remains firmly committed to equity and to the vision that public education is central to the creation of a humane, caring, multiracial democracy. While writing for a broad audience, Rethinking Schools emphasizes problems facing urban schools, particularly issues of race." Rethinking Schools is also one of two coordinating organizations for "The Zinn Education Project," which supports the teaching of Howard Zinn's book "A People's History of the United States" to help equip students with the analytical tools to make sense of — and improve — the world today.

Facing History and Ourselves Inc.

Facing History & Ourselves uses lessons of history to challenge teachers and their students to stand up to bigotry and hate.
